Stature in the White House

The average height of U.S. presidents is approximately 5 feet 11 inches, which is notably taller than the average American male height during much of U.S. history.

The tallest president was Abraham Lincoln, standing at 6 feet 4 inches, significantly above his contemporaries, especially during the Civil War era when the average male height was much less.

On the other end of the spectrum, the shortest president was James Madison, at 5 feet 4 inches, whose stature was below average even for his time in the early 19th century.
